Club Taree Springtime Tournament

Springtime at Taree 2017

The two rounds of Club Taree Golf’s Springtime Tournament were held Saturday 23 and Saturday 30 September with just on a hundred and thirty golfers on the first day and a one hundred and ten on the second. The tournament was sponsored by Club Taree and Hydrahose. The first day’s play was for the Hammond Kempe Shield a men’s four-ball better ball Stableford and, for the mixed pairs, the Hydrahose Trophy; the second days play in a men’s aggregate four-ball was for the Coleman Cup.

Todd and James Watkin were the winners of the Hammond Kempe Shield for 2017 with a nett score of 48 points. The day’s scratch winners were Peter Kennewell and Greg Turner with a score of 37 points; Todd Kennewell and Peter Doherty (36) were the second scratch placing. Lionel Wirth and Roy Hoffmeier (46) were nett runners up on a count back from Ross Townsend and Grant Melham (46) in third place and in fourth place on a count back were Pat Coleman and Barry Hodgson (45).

The Hydrahose Trophy for the best nett score for mixed pairs was won on a count back by two visitors: Lindy Blackburn from Killara GC and Anthony Bouffler from New South Wales GC; their nett score was 45 points. Nett runners up were Donna and James Warren (45) and in third place clear on 44 points were Annette and Morgan Stewart; Shirley and Danny Maurer (43) came home in fourth spot. The best scratch score in the mixed competition was won Bronwyn and David Heagney with their 29 points.

The best individual Stableford score across the field was achieved by Mal Brooks with a score of 41 just edging out Robert Everingham (41) on a count back. Visitors were from Wingham, Forster-Tuncurry, Belmont, Port Macquarie, Harrington, Killara and New South Wales.
Coleman Cup

The Coleman Cup for 2017 was won by Grant Melham and Ross Townsend with an aggregate four-ball score of 77 points. Brian Warwick and Graham Gibson (75) were runners up, Steve Ison and Roy Scheepers (73) were third and Dennis Farmer and Bruce Godfrey (71) were fourth on a count back. The best aggregate scratch score went to Ray Webber and Ray Matthews with 36 points.

Kathleen and Brian Knapp won the Hydrahose sponsored mixed aggregate event; their 78 was the best aggregate of the day and well ahead of runners up Kay Woolcock and Morgan Stewart (71); in third and fourth positions respectively were Beryl and Bruce Steber and Danny and Shirley Maurer both scoring 68 points and separated by a count back. Best scratch score for the mixed event went to Cath and John Andrews with 29 points.

The trophy for the best individual score of the day went to Jim Harris for his 41 points.
