JNJG North Coast Junior Masters, Kew Country Club

The Camden Haven produced glorious weather on Saturday and Sunday May18/19 for the 5th annual edition of the JNJG North Coast Junior Masters played at Kew Country Club. A field of 108 of some of the best junior golfers in NSW & Queensland (17 years and under) hit off at 12 noon on Saturday in blazing sunshine and concluded the tournament with a 7.45 am shotgun start on a cool and clear Sunday morning. Not only was the weather hot both days but so was the golf. In addition to a number of boys and girls shooting under par rounds, there were two holes-in-one, one on Saturday by Brie Mapanao (The Australian) at the 15th hole and one on Sunday by William Kain (The Ridge) at the 10th hole.
The boys Open Championship was won by the per-tournament favorite Corey Lamb (Concord) who shot 67/70 (137) three under par to beat LNC young gun Fletcher Murray (Kew)  70/69 (139) one under par by 2 shots. For the second year in a row Fletcher was the runner-up so all at the LNCDGA are hoping that 2020 will be his year to win the N C Masters.
The girls Open Championship was a repeat of last year with the winner Yerin Kim (Strathfield) shooting 76/67 (143) one over par and winning by 4 shots from Brie Mapanao (The Australian) 71/76 (147).
Kew’s Pyper Hollis won the girls 16 years and over nett while Kew’s Colby Wilkinson shot the lowest net score (12 under par) in any of the age groups to win the boys 12/13 years nett with rounds of 62/66. Port Macquarie’s Ella Scaysbrook had rounds of 81/80 (161) to finish runner-up in the girls 12/13 years gross. Taree/Wingham’s Danny Bisby shot nett 67 on Saturday which was the best nett round in the boys 16 years and over division but couldn’t back it up on Sunday and finished out of the prizes.
The LNC had 13 players in the tournament and once again we figured prominently in the final results of a JNJG Masters event. We continue to “punch above our weight” in junior events.
