JNJG North Coast Junior Masters, Kew Country Club

The JNJG North Coast Junior Masters golf tournament rescheduled from its May date was played at Kew Country Club last weekend 5-6 December 2020 and two LNCDGA juniors took out the major trophies. 15-year-old Port Macquarie rising star Ella Scaysbrook with rounds of 74 & 71 won the girls open championship by 1 shot from the Sydney pair Claire & Nara Shin. It was a come from behind victory with Ella 2 shots behind the leaders starting the Sunday round of the 36 hole tournament but she was good enough to post an even par round and clinch the title by 1 shot.
In the boys open division, Kew Country Club’s Fletcher Murray playing his last tournament in junior ranks with his 18th birthday only 12 days away, played steady golf over the two days and with 69 each day (2 under) was able to win the championship by 1 shot from Jake Riley (Toronto). The Kew crowd erupted with excitement when Fletcher holed his final putt to win as he had been the runner-up the last two years.
Another LNCDGA junior about to leave the junior ranks Maddy Butterfield (Fredrickton) continued her recent excellent form to finish in 2nd place 2 shots behind the winner in the girls over 16 nett. Two other LNCDGA youngsters showed that the District has excellent talent emerging from the ranks with a win and a runner-up in the boys 12/13 years nett. Port Macquarie’s Nick Van Zeeland 63/65 (12 under par) won by 1 shot from Forster/Tuncurry’s Rory Falk (11 under). The LNCDGA had a number of other juniors playing in various divisions and all are to be congratulated for their efforts over two very gruelling days. In particular we highlight the play of Kew’s Vanna Limeburner who shot 73 (2 over) on day one to be 1 shot behind the girls open leader only to have a tough day on Sunday with nothing going right. Vanna will learn from the experience of playing in the final girl’s group of the day and with girls who currently represent NSW at state level.
